Manhattan Coin Club Minutes

May 12, 2015

President Doyle called the meeting to order. There were no guests or new members attending.

Our treasurer Dave reported the club has $2,627.58 in the account with $600 of that is Life Memberships.

The Kansas Numismatic Association "Numismatic Education for Kansans by Kansans" will be held June 6, 2015 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Room 206 of Kansas State Student Union. Our club is hosting the event. Seats are filling fast. Attached is the application to attend. The cost is $10 for KNA members and $20 for non-members. The extra $10 will pay for KNA membership.

Matt brought up that there is a new website that is an alternate for eBay for coin auctions, http://www.usacoinbook.com/. He says the costs are lower for dealers. Matt has opened a store there and club members can get 10% off by using the coupon code “manhattancoinclub” at http://www.usacoinbook.com/members/matthewscoinsetc/.

Doyle reminded members that the June meeting would be a picnic at Long’s Park located at the corner of 17th and Yuma. Members should bring a dish to share and table service. The club will provide drinks and chicken. The picnic will start at 6:30 pm.

Guy brought to the club’s attention the 2016 Deluxe Edition of the Red Book. Billed as the “biggest, most useful Red Book ever,” the Deluxe Edition measures 7 x 10 inches and has 1,504 pages. The larger size and increased page count combined make the Deluxe Edition five times bigger than the regular-edition Red Book. It prices 8,018 items in up to 12 grades each, with 50,205 individual values and 16,667 auction records covering circulated, Mint State, and Proof coinage. The book is illustrated with 5,753 images.

Chris made a motion to purchase an edition at $49.95. The motion was seconded and passed without opposition. Dave will procure the book with the hopes of a discount.

The program was the mystery grader and 14 coins had been submitted.

The silent auction was completed. Larry won the door prize, which was a mystery until he opened it. It was a $10 Confederate bill.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
